Electronic Engineering Applications
Automotive Electronics
The new Mercedes S-class has 63 microprocessors, electronic engineering plays a huge part in modern automotive systems.
Areas of research include automatic pedestrian detection, power management hybrid car technology,
navigation systems, self driving cars and much more.
Automotive Electronics Spotlight
The DARPA Grand Challenge is a competition for driverless cars held in the US. This year the cars will have to nagigate through a 96 km urban area course in less than 6 hours. The vehicles must obey all traffic laws while they detect and avoid other robots on the course. This is a particular challenge for vehicle software, as vehicles must make "intelligent" decisions in real time based on the actions of other vehicles.
