What is the best thing about your job?
SeThe best thing about my job is the problem solving involved in completing everyday tasks.

Why did you decide to do Electronic Engineering?
I never knew what I wanted to do after school. I did know that I liked Mathematics, so I decided to do Engineering. Electronics was not the first engineering discipline that attracted me. However after one year I changed to Electronic and Computer Engineering and I have never looked back since!

Describe your typical day?
The first things I do in the morning are read and answer my e-mails. I have a short meeting with my project manager and we discuss the tasks I have to complete. Then, it is time for a tea break. Before lunch I start my work which usually involves programming in Java and XML. After lunch, I continue on with work until 5:30. Then it is time to go home.

What kind of equipment do you use?
I mostly write software, although, in the future I will test my code on a digital TV set top box.

What were your likes and dislikes at school?
I liked Maths and French in school. I really didn't like English or Irish.

What advice would you give to a young engineer?
Don't be afraid of engineering. It is not as hard as people think.
