Background
I'm a native of Kilcoona, Corrandulla, Co.Galway. I went to Kilcoona National School, and Presentation College Headford, before studying in NUI, Galway.

Year of graduation & qualifications received
2004 - 1st Hons degree in Electronic & Computer Eng

Current work status
I'm working as a postgraduate research engineer in the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science, in NUI, Galway.

Why did you decide to do Electronic Engineering?
I always had an interest in Maths and Physics, and particularly electronics.

Where have you travelled with your job?
I haven't had the chance to travel yet, as I am still in the first year of my Ph.D.

What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is the variety. I get to see all aspects of the research and development process. The research environment allows me to develop a project all the way from an initial idea to its final stages. Apart from my supervisors, I manage the project myself and the responsibility for the project is my own.

Describe your typical day?
I would generally have a plan for the week. A few select goals that I would like to achieve. I'm working in the area of Electromagnetic modelling, so I would spend most of my day writing code which generates mathematical models to predict the propagation of Electromagnetic waves in different environments. Other days would be spent reading papers, and doing general research.

What kind of equipment do you use?
At the moment, all of my research is computer based, so the only equipment I need is a PC and MATLAB (software simulation package). As the project progresses, I will be using RF Hardware, such as Ultra-Wideband transmitters and receivers.

What were your likes and dislikes at school?
I would have liked most of the science subjects in school, including physics, Chemistry, and Maths. The only subject I didn't really like in school was Accounting, which I found quite tedious.
